MIPS Tip Tuesday:
Did you know that clinicians can choose a 90-day reporting period in 2016, 2017 AND 2018?
As you may have heard, the Hospital OPPS final rule announced that all providers can select a 90-day reporting period in 2016 for the last year of the Meaningful Use program.
In addition, the MACRA final rule announced that, for the 2017 reporting period, clinicians in the MIPS track can select a 90-day reporting period because it’s the first year of MACRA.
You probably already knew both those facts if you follow our social media accounts and the blog.
What you may not know (unless you read yesterday’s blog) is that CMS will allow clinicians to select a 90-day reporting period in 2018 as well. There’s a slight kicker here: The 90-day reporting period will apply only to the Advancing Care Information component of MIPS. For the other three components, you will be submitting data for the full year. CMS allowed for this adjustment to give clinicians enough time to make the transition to an ONC 2015-edition EHR (which will be required starting in 2018).
