During the past few years I have had the privilege of holding a ring-side seat as our company has evolved from a small entrepreneurial startup into a mature software company. A valuable part of this transformation has been the internal recognition that we do not possess a monopoly on the ideas and best practices that define the practice of nephrology. In the late 1990’s when this company was in its infancy and you could count our customers on one hand, it was common to incorporate ideas into the application based on personal experience.
Later this spring, we will reach an important milestone. We will sign our 1,000th nephrology provider. Reaching this milestone is very exciting and it is something we will appropriately celebrate. At the same time this growth is accompanied by a growing responsibility. No longer can we rely exclusively on personal experience to inform our development efforts. Increasingly it is important for us to look outside our company for guidance and counsel.
The Acumen Medical Advisory Board is one of the important resources we rely on. Now in its second year, the Acumen MAB has quickly matured into a guiding force for our company. Our MAB members hail from a wide range of practice sizes located across the country. These seven nephrologists are not only EHR champions within their respective practices, but each brings important experience to the MAB. It is a pleasure working with this group of nephrologists. Among other things I have enjoyed watching this group evolve from the occasional “What’s in it for me?” perspective to one of global concern for what is best for our customer base at large.
Last week we held our Spring 2011 MAB meeting. Reviewing a variety of topics, these nephrologists provided important feedback for us as we consider improvements to the existing application. The meeting was a success by any measure and generated positive energy for our company. Of course we continue to encourage feedback from every user. But I, for one, truly appreciate the dedication demonstrated repeatedly by our Medical Advisory Board members. Hats off to each of you and many thanks for all that you do.
