This year marks the third year for our company’s medical advisory board (MAB). As our customer base expands, the MAB plays an increasingly important role within our organization. Each spring we go through a transition as we say goodbye to members who are rotating off the board and we welcome new members. Today I would like to use this venue to express my gratitude to our departing members and to welcome our new members to the team.
Departing this year are Drs. Steve Garcia and Randy Gertner. Steve practices in Springfield, Missouri, and has been an Acumen customer for many years. He brought a wealth of practical experience and a broad clinical background to the MAB. Quick with a smile, his level-headed counsel will be missed as we move forward without him. Randy practices in Fredericksburg, Virginia. I can think of no other individual who was as “diligent” during his EHR due diligence search as was Randy. Possessing a broad interest in technology, Randy’s thoughtful contributions to the MAB will be missed. Randy also wears the crown for most comments on this blog, a crown I hope he maintains in the years ahead.
This year we welcome three new members to the MAB. Mike Casey practices in Raleigh, North Carolina, where his practice is just beginning the process of EHR adoption. He is in close proximity to our new office in Durham and we look forward to his contributions to the Acumen MAB. Alberto Esquenazi practices in Miami. I have had the pleasure of getting to know Alberto through our contact at a variety of professional meetings and I know he will bring valuable contributions to the MAB. Last, but certainly not least, is Peter Manring. Peter practices in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and, like Steve Garcia, is a longstanding Acumen nEHR user. Peter possesses a number of talents including a remarkable proficiency with voice recognition. We are very much looking forward to Peter’s contributions to the MAB.
Spring is a season of transition and, as in years past, it is a time of change within the Acumen MAB. Please join me in thanking our outgoing members for a job well done, and in welcoming our new members and the anticipation of valuable contributions ahead.

Terry, Thanks for the nice words. I think that one of Acumen’s strength is the ability to listen to the users and continue to make the already great application even better. In other news, I took your suggestion on the book list, and finished “Drive.” That is a must read for every small business owner. It will definitely alter the way we develop policies for our employees. Finally, I wanted to throw a suggestion in the box. For the FMC medical director meeting, perhaps Acumen could sponsor the creation of an app. I have been to many meetings (and even tennis tournaments) where there is an app for the meeting. The app contains a schedule, location, course materials, relevant links, etc….Let’s make a goal to make FMC the first paperless medical director meeting. I am sure you will also pick up a few new customers when they see what you can create.
