Timothy McNamara, M.D., MPH, is a physician with an extensive background in health informatics. He brings 26 years of experience in health care IT from work in both corporate and academic environments. Dr. McNamara joined Fresenius Medical Care North America in May 2019 as a director of Clinical Health Information Technology. Prior to that, he spent 10 years at Allscripts as a physician executive assisting its clients in the evaluation, implementation and deployment of advanced clinical information systems to support accountable care, value-based care and MACRA programs.
Prior to Allscripts, he served as the medical director for the Center for Health Care Informatics at the University of Kansas Medical Center and taught graduate-level courses in health care informatics with academic appointments in both the School of Medicine and School of Nursing. And prior to KUMC, he served as vice president at Cerner Corporation directing a large research staff of physicians, pharmacists, nurses and software engineers developing drug information products and pharmacokinetic algorithms for safe drug dosing, particularly in the setting of renal insufficiency and dialysis. He also oversaw Cerner’s content development initiatives for clinical documentation, evidence-based ordersets, care pathways and patient education.
Dr. McNamara is a graduate of the Tulane University School of Medicine and the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. He trained in internal medicine at the Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation in New Orleans and at the St. Paul Medical Center campus of UT Southwestern in Dallas.
